I am at the moment using a Panasonic G2 CSC. I am thinking of upgrading to a DSLR , I've been thinking of the D3200. Thoughts of my fellow uglies please :)
Good choice...you can't go wrong with a Nikon

here is a crazy crazy statement by ken rockwell,
"I shot with my Nikon D3200 all weekend, and love it! It's got better ergonomics, better color rendition and a better LCD than my D800E"
it has a nice 24mp sensor, can't, I repeat, can't go wrong with this baby, except a newer Nikon 5100/5200 is around the corner.

I vote for the Pentax K-5. The cost is more reasonable and the functions and color are exceptional. Look up the specs and you will be impressed. I bought one a month ago and feel I am shooting film quality photos again.

Congratulations on the move up! The following are forums on the Hog that have helped others in making the leap. Good luck!

I've been using the Canon T2I/550d, and absolutely love it.
I have to concurr with the other K-5 pentax owner here. The subtitles are better than both the Cannon 7D and the nIkon and sony.

The Pop Photo I just got has a brief article on a new Pentax - lots of performance for $800. Review to follow when they get one.

I got to play with images from the K-5 a few weeks ago. They were outstanding. I'm a Nikon guy.
Its tough to chose between the Nikon, Cannon, Sony and Pentax they are all so good. I have had Nikon's and they are truly great cameras and NIkor lenses are a-1 But Then I've had cannon for years as well and they are fabulous. hard to chose between them. I had more old Pentax lenses and a soft spot in my heart as that is what I learned on in the 70s on a spotmatic in High School. So I went with the K-5 and it is superb.

I have no idea if you are a 'he male' or a 'she male' plus the size of your mitts, but if I were you I would want to 'feel' the camera before I parted with my hard earned shekels.
I have heard of folks complaining that a camera felt too light or too flimsy, others complain that it was too big or clumsy and these comments might refer to the exact same camera.
Is there a significant difference between the quality of image when looking at these cameras? The Pentax has indeed had some very nice reviews but what about lens choice or availability? If we cannot afford the branded glass then with Canon or Nikon there will always be a cheaper version made by Sigma, Tamron etc. Do these manufacturers include Pentax within their range or does a Pentax have similar fitting to the big two?
Just me thinking aloud and good luck with your choice.
Pentax has a massive lens catalogue. And both Tamron and Sigma build lenses for Pentax. As well any of the lenses made for pentax in the past 40 years can be used on the new cameras. No need to worry about stablization either as it is built in to the camera body unlike the Nikon and Cannon which build it into their lenses. The K-5 body is magnesium and solid as a rock.
Welcome to the forum. I almost bought a D3200 a couple of weeks ago. I shoot with a D-50 and my son has been wanting that camera for years. The deal breaker for me was the 3200 has no focus motor built into the body. I have a number of Nikon lenses that would not auto-focus with the D3200 body. I am still going to upgrade and give my son the D-50. I'm looking at a D-7000 as my next camera.
