To all my fellow veterans - thank you for your service........
Thanks, and to you the same.
Yes, I thank all our Veterans who are in uniform today. My young cousin is in the Navy, and he gave us good news that he has been promoted to pay grade E-4. We're happy for him. And let's not forget to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
I was drafted and went in on 06/68-06/70. Worst 2 years of my life! 50 years later....I still can't believe my country did that too me! 50 years later I still can't believe my country put me through that. When I got out....I threw EVERYTHING Army in the trash. I never wear green....never wear shirts with Army on it. I even threw away all my discharge papers....everything Army.
You would think that after 50 years the pain will have gone away....but it's gotten worse! The WORLD is finding out now what I have known for 50 years....the Generals are as crooked as all of them(Flynn).

And I can't believe you are being enough of a jerk to make this post on a thread saying thank you to veterans.
You could have just kept quiet and done something else.
People that were DRAFTED have a completely different take on their military service! Many never speak out....they are trying to forget! It's like marrying somebody because you WANT to.....or marrying a person because you HAVE to! Again....after 50 years going by....you would thank the pain would have gone away....but it's with me every day! I want the WORLD to know what my country put me through.....and for what? Viet Nam!!?? No winners....no losers....just death and wounded....and for what?

Nothing has changed. The only gorilla war that the US has ever won is the American Revolution. I too would like to thank all Vets. Without them, we would not be free. I proudly served 1975-1982 USAF Stratigic Air Command, crew dog¸ Peace is our profession.

I'm sorry that the military made your life so miserable. Among the millions who served in Vietnam or other places, I'll admit some were not given a fair break. But most of our men came back home, recovered the best way they could, got jobs, and became productive members of society. Nothing will change you now. Especially after 50 years. You had your chances a long time ago. I knew three draftees who were killed in Vietnam, and three who have retired from civilian jobs, and have grandchildren now. The Vietnam War, is the very reason the military draft ended.

Well I am sorry you are still hurting after all this time. It seems you have a lot of things that need to be worked out to help you come to peace with your life. It is a shame that two years has ruined your whole life.
Actually I was drafted, but said "hell no" and went down and joined the Regular Army. That was a move I had already been thinking about to get the GI Bill and go to college, they just nudged me a little as to when I did it.
Well, there was a winner in Vietnam, the North Vietnamese won in the end. And I believe it was mainly politicians that got us that loss. If there was a way they could have messed up the orders/plans they gave the military that wasn't done it was an accident. If there was a way to do it wrong they found it.
I am one of those who believes just the opposite about the draft vs all volunteer. I think we should do what Switzerland, Israel and a few others do. Everyone serves in some way, then we would not have anyone getting into politics and government who didn't know what they were getting us into. Esp if there is a long term reserve service so they don't forget it. In fact I would endorse the system Robert Heinlein had in his novel Starship Troopers. Service (military or other) as the way to full citizenship (voting), elective office and government jobs. Then the country would only be run by those who had been there and done that with personal experience of the costs.
Thanks, and to you the same.

I agree with you completely, and to add to your post, the draft would reduce the number of entitled snot nosed 20-30 year olds who require safe spaces and coloring books.
And thanks to all who served.
Truly A very Disturbed rant. You Truly should seek help........
