Online Photography Classes

I have been into photography for quite awhile, but I have recently been getting more into it. In asking around about some online photography classes to grow as a photographer, several acquaintances have suggested kelbytraining.com

Does anyone here have any experience with these classes, or do you have another source you would recommend?

There other threads about Kelby on UHH. Some like him others do not. You should be careful to distinguish between his opinion and what is fact. You might want to look at the Proud Photography School.

There is so much good and mediocre free stuff on UTube, that I'd start there and see what works for you. Most of the online training folks also post samples there.

This is not a commercial message. I just finished the professional course with New York Institute of Photography and was very impressed with what they had taught me over eighteen months. The course includes reading material, audio and video CDs, homework (yes, homework!) and feedback. They cover almost everything a professional photographer needs to know and offers advice/suggestions on how to set up your own photography business. Can't remember the actual price, but it was around $800 if you pay the entire cost up front; more so if you pay monthly.

I've just finished the Bryan Peterson Understanding Exposure course online. The content is very similar to his book of the same name but I found the weekly assignments and critiques motivated me to put the effort in. It's aimed at beginners like me but there were other participants who obviously had more experience but who said that they got a lot out of the course too. His website is The Perfect Picture School of Photography and you can read more about the courses on offer - lots of them -there . Once a class starts there is a section of the website for just that class, where the lessons are posted week by week with a class forum for asking each other advice , that was good fun and really helpful. The price was $395 which I think was good value as it runs for 8 weeks. I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have .

NYIP has been around for many, many years. That's usually a good sign.

CreativeLive always is running courses that are free the day they run, and do a rerun in the evening free. if you want to purchase them you can for later reference and you can ask questions while the class is going. I love these courses I have watched.

I know you stated on-line specifically, but have you looked into night courses at your local vocational school or state university? Many of these places have adult courses for hobbyists/retirees that are quite good and could be more hands-on and definately more access to the instructor.

Check your local school system for adult continuing education classes.
I taught a photo class on Long Island offered for adults by the school system. Also, call local art museums.
