I took great photos yesterday of Granddaughters fishing and a dragonfly.
DUH! no memory card.
Welcome to UHH. LOL It happens.
It certainly dodo happens........
One time I was sent on a camera shoot (for the newspaper), did my shooting, came back to develop and print and discovered I had forgotten to put film in the camera....
NOT a good day...................
been there, done that...now i set my camera to not release the shutter without a card inserted. a setting in the menu system.
Those are always the best shots. LOL. It happens.
Most of my best shots were taken that way!

Rule #1, is to be sure you have a memory card in camera.
I went on an air drop for stocking trout in the high Sierra's, took incredible photos. Once in a life time experience.
Only to get home and find out I had no memory card in camera!!! But I check the pics on LCD!! come to find out that the camera (D-300) has some "Flash" memory, and a very small warning message that says "No memory card", I just didn't see it!!
Kinda like the fish that got away!
My episode was back in the days of film...

I recall opening the back of my Pentax Spotmatic II to replace the film back in 1969. But I had forgotten to rewind the roll.
36 perfectly exposed and composed photos instantly destroyed! I just know they had to be some of my best photos ever!
(The ones that "got away" usually are.....) :?
Thanks to everyone for helping me thru this painful event. Laughing. Now back to Photography

Go to your Menu immediately! Go to f9 memory card setting and select the LOCK setting, then the camera will not take that shot if there's no card in place. Nikon default allows you to shoot without this lock on (demo mode they call it) but then you may end up in the situation you had (shooting without a card). I learned the hard way too with my D200. Hopefully it will only happen once!
