A touch of snow to enhance our camping experience
This is from the Air Force Academy campgrounds - 18 May
Shot these through the window as it was a good day to stay inside and relax...

I think this was the latest measurable snow on record, and the measurements were up to 2 ft to 3 ft in some places like Estes Park. We went from 2 yrs of drought to this extremely late snow, which killed a lot of trees and lawns across the entire state. At least our mountain forests are less stressed by the drought, but the eastern plains are a mess right now. Went from no moisture for months to too much all at once. Snow on the Memorial Day weekend in the mountains is not unusual. You cannot do anything about it so just sit back in a warm and dry place and enjoy the strange weather. Looks like you avoided the golf ball sized hail from the week before.

Doesn't the old song go something like, When it's springtime in the Rockies it's 40 below? Colorado weather can change at anytime for good or bad. A few people have died in the Rockies while going for a short hike in the mountains during the Spring without so much as a sweater or light jacket to keep warm. The weather changed and turned into a blizzard. That part of Colorado is in the so called Banana Belt where snow comes in the Spring but doesn't stay too long. The next day weather could be 75 degrees.

Great photos by the way.

It was scenic - some folks were tent camping and the snow collapsed their camp while they were out... We were glad to be in out camper where it was warm & dry.
Yes, we were fortunate not to be in the "hail" zone last week. We were camping outside of Woodland Park a few years ago on Memorial weekend and enjoyed the late spring snow.
When we lived in Colorado Springs we would camp at Lathrop State Park outside of Walsenburg a couple of times a month - fell in love with the park and tried to go as much as possible.
I find it difficult to find places in CO to camp now - seems all the state park sites are snapped up immediately upon opening the website for reservations which makes it almost impossible to get a spot...

The snow falling in the first photo and the covering of snow, makes for very nice shots.
