I am looking for a holster style case to hold my 7D or 50D camera with my 100-400mm lens. It needs to be about 10 1/4 inches deep. Does any one know of one that will work?

I bought the Manfrotto Solo VI case. It advertises that it will hold a 100-400mm lens but mine does not fit. See:

It is actually about an inch and a half short. It won't work with my 70-200mm lens either so it is going back.

I just found the Tamrac 5630 Pro Digital Zoom 10 holster. See it at:

Does any one have or use this bag? It looks like it should work.

I have it. It works (without lens shade of course.)
I think I like the Lowepro Toploader Pro AW 75 better because I reach for it more often when carrying a long tele.
Nothing like trying one out for yourself. It's why there are hundreds of different camera bags out there.

I ordered the Tamrac this afternoon, before your post. I will find out Monday if I like it or not. The Tamrac looks to be a little smaller, it doesn't look like it would handle an extra lens. Could be an advantage or a dis-advantage. Who knows, might end up with both like you.

Not many holsters out there for big lenses. I wear a vest most of the time and can always grab the backpack.

I use a crumpler holster and love it. Not sure of model but think they only did 2. It holds upto my 5d mkii, with grip and 400mm. Or 200mm with my 50mm in bottom. Also holds 1ds body same lenses. There is no rain cover your 7d would be fine but not sure about your 50d. The bag part is quite water proof but rain can get in through the gaps sometimes.

Also sometimes I tighten the strap around my waists like a bum bag if im going on a trek.

I use the Think Tank "DSLR Holster 50". It holds my gripped 7D with a 70-200 2.8L attached and the hood mounted in the extended position.

I recently lost the rain cover that it came with and when I called TT to order another - they just sent it to me at no cost.

I also own several other TT products and have been very happy with their quality and how well they protect my gear. Can't say enough good about their customer service and their products!

Thinktank 50 holds the combo you're asking about just fine. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike
