Do you happen to be taking the Overseas Adventure Tour in August?
No, we are going with our Alumni group. Maybe we'll bump into each other anyway.

My wife and I are traveling to Iceland this summer. I have a Peak Design 30L backpack to carry my camera, lenses, etc. I want to hand carry this all the way. What is the process and requirements for getting through airport security with all the gear? Do they require removing everything for inspection! I heard from someone that batteries could be an issue - separate packing?? Any shared experiences would be appreciated. I hope to get a tripod to fit in my checked luggage so that should not be an issue.

My last overseas trip was the first time I had to take out the cameras for agents to check. They wanted to check the lenses. That was in Amsterdam. I expect there will be more of this now with the new rules imposed by the current administration.

You've been misinformed. Certainly you can bring a camera as a carry on from Iceland.
This is not the first time he has been "misinformed". He profers erroneous information on here all the time. I have traveled to 15 countries since January and had a camera and a laptop in my carry-on on every flight.

That's the first I heard of that. Didn't see that on TSA or airline websites.
And you won't. The TSA, indeed many agencies operate with impunity. They do not consider it their job to inform the public of any changes. Part of this is due to the fact that those agency responsibilities are dolled out to private contractors chosen by corrupt politicians. I don't expect it to be long before we will have to check our wallets because our credit card chips will be designated "electronic devices." Heaven help you now if you have a pacemaker, a TENS unit or a prosthetic hip, knee or ankle.
Last time I flew from the USA (1977) there were customs forms to fill out before we left home to avoid having to pay import fees when we returned. Maybe all that has gone round the bend so to speak.

Yes, it has. I remember those days: I had a German camera, and before traveling to Europe, I had to take the camera to the airport and show it to the customs agents who noted the serial number and gave me a certificate that I had to show on return to the US. Not any more.
I think what has happened is that many items that we use daily are made overseas; when I see those items for sale overseas, they are not cheaper than in the US; often much more expensive. So fewer people are buying dutiable items overseas than before, and it has become a waste of time for the customs folks to worry about an occasional item.
I had to turn in my bag at the gate in Dubai with my cameras and iPad. They only allowed me to carry on my cell phone. But all good. It was waiting for me when I got to international Baggage in orlando tagged and sealed. I kept my memory cards with over 4000 pictures. My daughter and I went to S. Africa Kurger Park. Ten more years and Rhinos will be no more. Fifteen years end of African Elephants. Poachers killing them for them for Ivey and Rhino Horn.
