Been interested in high speed laser triggered photography for a while. About 6 months back got myself a MIOPS trigger , and after collecting, making all the bits and pieces needed to make it useful I've been practicing.
Bit of a learning curve, figured there was, but some of the things showing up I didn't even think about. Such as the water I've been splashing things into really needs to be distilled, the flash can really show up the cloudiness of tap water. And of course the lighting, power, direction etc. Also noticed I really needed a lot more distance to the backdrop, it doesn't take much light to make it show.
Here are a few images I've taken. I'm getting better but I'm still not entirely happy, more practice, as if I REALLY need another excuse to go out to the garage after dinner
Of course any pointers will be really appreciated
Steve :
Did you have any delay dialled into the Miops. Looking at the first three shots it seems that the initial splash has been missed.
Rather than buy distilled water, why not use Gin or Vodka.

Yes, I had a delay, in fact I spent quite a bit of time experimenting with the delay. The MIOPS has 1ms steps, and I discovered it was too larger a step. Found I had to start experimenting with different height between laser and splash, and different release points above the laser. I actually wrote to MIOPS and suggested an update the give 0.1ms steps, they said they'd "add it to the list"
Here are a couple more, first has delay 1ms less, second I moved to glass up a little.
Lots of experimenting to do

- 1ms
Move target up

Hi Steve
Thanks for the info on the delay. I have been considering buying a MIOPS to play with when unable to get out.
Rather than using the laser to trigger it, have you experimented with "sound". i.e. as the olive hits the water?
