Through the eyes of a child the world is magical...
The camaraderie latent within youth team sports brings endless joy to both players and fans alike...
Rarely if ever pass up the privilege and honor in photographing the aforementioned...
Those enchanting moments are just way to precious...

Thanks!

Thanks Jules!
Yep, wonderful to document a child's journey through imagery...
Mom's especially love photos of their kid's excursion into the sports arena...

btw, Peyton's mom is an agency model that I've collaborated with many times on client's fashion sessions.

Here's Peyton on the soccer pitch...

And yes Mom was the wardrobe stylist on this capture... :)

Many thanks for your thoughtful reflections on Peyton's sports endeavors raymondh and Joe Allen they are greatly appreciated...
He's a great kid who sadly at age 2 lost his Dad to a DWI driver who crossed the median and who took the lives of two others in the car and crippled one other... Needless to say Peyton's mom and I are now members of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and attend their annual march for awareness...

Please don't drive if you are under the influence of alcohol.... This recreational drug kills more people in the US than all other drugs combined...
Joe I'm certain you are aware of the FAA directive. "Eight Hours Bottle to Throttle" When I worked for United Airlines they set the bar a lit' higher... Absolutely no alcoholic beverage 24 hours before stepping into a United Airline's cockpit...

And yes I'll be there for Peyton as often as possible...

Wow Thomas how sad. You are a tremendous guy for taking on this horrible challenge. I can't even imagine how people deal with this kind of tragedy.
For you to stand by his mom and do what you do for MADD is outstanding.
My son had cancer 5 years ago and now he is fine. What we went through is unthinkable.
God Bless You. Photography takes a back seat to what is really important in life. We try to capture that special moment.

Jules thank you for your thoughtful encouragement here...
And my very best wishes for your son's health and happiness...

Sometimes we forget just how amazingly wonderful good health and wellness is, until we lose it...

Again all the best...

Hi Thomas,

I haven't looked in for a while so sorry for the late response, but this series is so worthy of comment. If you believe that a picture tells a story, you have hit a home run here. The expression on Peyton's face after cracking the ball, the bat dropping and his arms and legs swinging into base running mode. Then more depth to the story with mom taking a snapshot in the background. Home run and great job capturing that moment!

Just two questions:

1. How did you get positioned for the 3rd base shot so quickly?
2. What is your preferred shutter speed for freezing this type of action? It worked well here!

jaysnave I knew exactly where I wanted to go with this narrative thus took images at two different times at bat...
So the sequencing was contrived... but I thought it to be effective for the series... Hope this doesn't spoil the ultimate effect.
btw, Peyton's mom loves these...

The camera was a Nikon D3 and the shutter speed was 1/4000...
Aperture f/5.6 and ISO 1600... The D3 is very clean at ISO 1600 and below so that was controlling here...
For freezing action? Depends on focal length and speed of movement... I shoot soccer at a minimum of 1/1600 but prefer at least 1/2000
Baseballs move well over twice as fast so 1/4000 is germane...

btw, a hummingbirds wings are still a blur at 1/8000 thus I've had to go to speedlights to freeze those lit' hummers...
Hope this helps...

And thank you so much for the kind words they are deeply appreciated...

It does help, thank you. I don't catch many sports opportunities currently, but in a few years I am sure there will be as many as I can handle as the grandkids will be that age. The "contrived" sequencing just shows your skill as a storyteller I don't like contrived. Lets call it orchestrated.
