What kind of hawk is this?

Check Audubon bird book for your area and you will be able to identify any bird.

Looks like it might even be a juv Redtail. Red-shouldered have more horizontal dark spots and don't have the unmarked legs as do the RT. Just another guess.

It would be an easy id if we new the size. Although the juvenile Coopers would be a possible given the location on the tree as well. The mantled wings cover some of the detailing.

I still believe that this is a Red-shouldered. If you would check out a post of mine 'Mother Red-shouldered Hawk still rearing her 1 yr. old baby' you will see that the OP's Hawk is a 'twin' of mine.

Well, except for tlbuljac I think we all agree it's a juvenile of some sort of hawk.
