Some more high school baseball.
I have been shooting a couple of high school baseball.
I love HS ball. Their intensity is so great. You've captured nicely their "all-or-nothing" attitude.

Just a suggestion...You should give vertical (portrait) orientation a try. I believe it will vastly improve the shots where half the player's body is cut off and make for a much better shot. Respectfully. Best of luck.
And doing a fair job in doing it.

Very nice shots Bernie. The only suggestion is I agree with cjc to try vertical.
Good captures I must say.
Bernie a very intriguing mix of visuals here... Love the way you've changed up the perspective... Good job!
I appreciate seeing what that EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is capable of... Makes Nikon shooters so envious... lol
Food for thought: Would suggest you might consider bumping up your shutter speed though... 1/500 to 1/800 at 400mm is really pushing it for action... The second image is razor sharp albeit it was at 1/1000 and at only 100mm (which is totally germane)
At 400mm I wouldn't shoot less than 1/1600 for action (IS is virtually useless for sports action) and since your ISO was pretty much in the basement no compelling reason not to go there (In my humble estimation)...
Thank you for sharing...
I wish you well on your journey Bernie...
Thank you for the tip on upping the shutter speed at 400mm Thomas. I will give this a try. I love shooting baseball there is so much going on. I really love the new 100-400 Canon lens. It is a great piece of glass.

Bernie a very intriguing mix of visuals here... Lo... (

Shooting with a long lens takes practice and lots of it. The 1/focal length rule still applies, although for some sports you do need to shoot at slightly faster speeds. Showing a bat, a ball, hands in motion adds to the impact of the shot. Freezing everything is not the goal. I have been shooting sports action for 50 years, the last 30 professionally. Experience will be your guide. IS is useful if handheld, less so if on a tripod or monopod, but the exact answer to that question is lens specific.
