I am looking for a back-up battery for my a77. My first thought was to go with original equipment, but after checking I have some confusion and could use some advice from those who know. The original battery is 7.2V, one I found is 7.4V. Would the higher voltage cause any damage or is .2V insignificant?

The original is 11.8 Wh. Two I have found have 14.8 Wh and 15.8 Wh. Does anyone know what this difference in watt hours would mean. Longer life? Shorter Life? Nothing important?
Thanks

You need to keep in mind that the Wh is a calculation - voltage x current. When a battery has a higher voltage, the Wh will be higher. the problem is that its the current that determines the charge life so what looks like a better Wh number really is nor as good as the original because the higher voltage is what give the higher reading. I am suspect of any battery that doesn't state MAH because they could be trying to make a battery with inferior battery life look better.

To calculate MaH, this web link is helpful : http://www.rapidtables.com/calc/electric/wh-to-mah-calculator.htm

You're asking for trouble messing with third party batteries. Stick to the factory supplied parts. Your warranty will still work.

The OP was concerned about 7.4 volts, not 7.2 volts.

Sorry, miss type. I meant 7.4 volts. .2 of a volt well within the camera tolerance.
