I know one of these is a crop frame sensor camera with Expeed 5 processor and the other full frame with Expeed 4 processor but what would be the better upgrade for someone with a Nikon D7000? Thank you. -Steve

Good question Steve:
I have a 7200 and went for the D750, and very happy with the camera: it's great in low light/high ISO and also good outdoors. The 500 may be better with video though:
Google Nikon D750 tutorial and then google Nikon D500 tutorial and see what pops up. Let us know what you decide, OK? Greenmachine

I went for the D750 when I had the same question.

I totally agree with easy8 . Those factors were taken in consideration by me, and since I do a all-around-type of photography, was looking for good image quality in low light and higher ISO, for me was correct to chose D750.

Here is my thread when I poped the question

Good Luck in your decision, I know it's hard , but keep calm :)

Depends on your photography needs and wallet:
- D750 is better for landscapes, art, fashion and low-light photography as it has more dynamic range and produces less noise.
- D500 is better for fast-moving sports and wildlife as it has probably the best AF acquisition and tracking system on the market; plus it's a cropped camera putting more pixels on an animal at long distances.
- D500 has an extremely fast 10 fps and a deep buffer to store 200 14-bit RAW images; D750 does 6.5 fps and has a RAW image buffer of about 21 14-bit images - sounds like an impressive difference but do you really need it? I've never exhausted my D750 buffer yet and shoot wildlife with it.
- D750 will require you to change DX lenses for FF ones - very expensive (I did this and can tell you it's a wallet unfriendly move)
- D500 has a pro button layout, while the D750 has the enthusiast one, similar to D7000, so easier to transition from your current camera
- D500 has the new Nikon bluetooth system (SnapBridge) to push jpgs from the camera to a smartphone/tablet easily; the D750 does not. Easier and faster to share but only for jpgs when likely you are shooting in RAW.
- D500 has a mix of SD (UHS-II) and QXD cards - not ideal; D750 has 2 x SD cards, albeit the slower UHS-I format; in any case you'll need new cards for the D500
- D500 has better video options including 4K support (albeit on only part of the sensor as it is heavily cropped)

My 2c.

The D750 has better noise capability but the D500 is better in just about every other feature. Either one is a step up from the D7000 so you can't make a bad choice.

The D750 goes for around $1500 on B&H photo unless the sale is over.

Hmm. I think you have underestimated or oversimplified the quality of the D750 image capability.

The Nikon D5 and D500 have the best autofocus system. They're the first two Nikons to have a separate processor dedicated to the autofocus. It's rated to work down to -4EV. If you decide on a D750 you may want to wait just a little longer. Its price has been drastically reduced. A new version will come out any day.

I'M ALL FOR THE D750 full-framer, and if $$$ is super tight, consider refurbished lenses!!!
Besides the low light/high ISO capabilities, it has a "Face Recognition" feature for your people shots, which is invaluable if you're into portraits---GO FOR IT!

My D750 is great, but the weight is its only downside.
One thing nice is using FX lenses on the DX sensor is the 1.5 factor. My 400mm then goes to 600mm.
The large sensor of the D750 produces a superior image if being enlarged on large prints.

I have both cameras. The D500 is a great camera. If you're going FX I would choose the D810. The D750 is a good camera but I don't think I would choose it over the D500. If you buy the D500 it is of a quality that I would recommend FX lenses. Coupled with the 24-120 it makes a wonderful walking-around combination. When it gets down to the nitty-gritty I haven't see anything better than the D810.

It depends on the kind of photography you do. If you do sports or wildlife, I'd go with the new D500. If you do mostly everything but those two things, get the D750

Nikon put a LOT OF THE D5 GUTS INTO THE D500 FOR $4500.00 less. The choice is yours.
