Web Site

I know I will catch it from some for asking what has already been asked, but I am not good at navigating through this site. I have tried to avoid having a website where clients can order prints and electronic files, but it is no longer avoidable and was probably never smart on my part to shun such service. Too many of my clients are asking about it.

Now, if you would like to tell me about the best website for photographers to offer views of their work, prints, and electronic files, I would certainly appreciate it. It is probably important for me to be able to set the fee per job. I don't know if it can be set per person. I also need something that explains how the damned thing works, because I find the explanations confusing. Money is not an object. I would rather pay for a good service than keep muddling around a badly conceived one.

I thank everyone in advance. I have posted several appeals for help, and you guys came through in spades. Now once more to the well.

I looked at and checked out several including Smugmug, Zenfolio and several others. I also decided to talk to some website designers and found they could do a much better job for me than I could on the named sites and about the same price as those sites wanted to create one for me. I chose a designer and I love my site. I can create password protected pages for everything I shoot so it is private except for the people I shot for. Weddings, Motocross events, special events, you name it I have the ability to do it, set the prices, name the sizes, and I set it up with PayPal, Visa, M/C for a very low % thru Pay Pal. I would do it all over again they same way. The site looks exactly the way I want and I can make changes to everything, articles, opening slideshow, photos, everything. My cost was under $1000. Check out the possibilities and see what works for you. Look at some competitors site and get some good ideas of what you want yours to look like. Good luck

Thanks. Eventually I may do it your way, but right now $1000 would eat too much of my profits. My best week was $1000, and I have more months when I do not make that than when I do.

If you use PS or PSE, they both run sites that may be able to help you. Also look at Shutterfly. None of these are truly "professional" sites, but they make acceptable starting points.

Thanks. I signed up for a trial version of SmugMug, which is taking forever to upload some 250 photos I was trying to share with attendees of a quinceanera. I noticed that Shutterfly is $250 a year, whereas SmugMug is only $150.

Thanks for the info; I'll take a look at SmugBug also.
