Need some help here....I'm shooting bursts and merging them in HDR m shooting bursts. OK Now to PP these I am undecided whether to do it in LR and then transfer or pp in HDR before merging or pp in HDR after the merger is done...

Would appreciate ideas.

Rufe if you are here, PM me ok?

Thank you all......

Depends somewhat on the nature of the post-processing adjustment(s) you have in mind. Generally speaking, I would merge the group of images in whatever HDR application you choose, then after saving, go into Lightroom and make further adjustments if necessary. But, again, it depends on what sort of adjustments are truly necessary after the HDR merger. Good HDR software may obviate further adjustments.

True, I use OloneoHDRengine and it is good. I have tried BW in one shot and grunge just to see the effects. Interesting but I'm only beginning in this process....thank you for replying

Are you varying the exposure from image to image within this burst mode approach?

I use Lightroom to do the merging and preliminary adjustments, and final adjustments (if needed) in Photoshop.

Pretty much the same except that I do not finish in PS (that one is HUGE)

Layered three, then layered again with the same shot but in BW

I do HDR completely in Photomatix Pro. It offers lots of adjustments.

i suggest that you try Aurora HDR2017 and after merging your images, you can do tonemaping and further editing with adjustment layers and layer masks in AuroraHDR itself and there after you need to do very minimal editing either in lightroom and photoshop.after using Aurora HDR,you can use Luminar to do fine adjustments.

I rarely do HDR in camera because it ties up the camera for too long while it carries out the HDR calculations. I prefer to bracket the shot and carry out the HDR in the computer - in my case LR or occasionally PS.

I sometimes bracket specifically for HDR, but usually I don't. I get enough dynamic range out of my Sony sensor, and Lightroom offers enough adjustments that usually it's not necessary. But often I will do an HDR as a quick and easy fix to an image, and when I do I first try one of a few presets I acquired somewhere. If I don't like how they look, I'll take my RAW file and make two copies, first taking the exposure down a couple stops in one and a couple stops up in the other.

Using the three files I now have (normal, two stops over, two stops under), I apply only a basic changes to one image (camera calibration and lens correction, maybe straighten a horizon if necessary), then I sync these settings to the other two, making sure they are identical in everything except exposure. Then I "Edit in" from Lr, selecting "Merge to HDR Pro in Ps" and let Ps do its thing. After merging, I may or may not adjust Ps' merge settings before closing Ps to edit the resulting merged file in Lr, which I then edit as I would any other image for sharpness, noise, etc.

I am just learning the power of layers adjustments, and I think that is a better way to go. But for now, I use HDR (and pseudo, single-image HDR) for a quick fix. I'll attach an example of before and after. I was at Badwater in Death Valley a couple months ago mid-day under a dreary gray sky, so it was impossible to get any decent shots. I decided to try some creative compositions to play with later in post. In this image, the HDR merge added some texture to the clouds but also added a dark vignette to the top of the sky that I chose not to adjust out in Ps because it adds something to an otherwise ho-hum image.

Tim Grey had an HDR webinar, yesterday. He likes processing HDRs in Lightroom and Aurora. Then others like Photomatix. I agree.

Roadrunner... I use Photomatix Pro. I merge my photos and do adjustments in it, then bring the photo back into Lightroom and make any other adjustments I want at that time. I also recently purchased Aurora HDR, but have not had much time to play around with it yet.
