Cameta

A week or so ago I asked my fellow UHHers for opinions concerning Cameta Camera. Thanks again to those of you who responded. Thought I'd share my experience with them, but first a little background...

I've been looking for a 4/3 shooter to go with my D7000, a smaller camera to take with me all the time. I decided on the Olympus OMD E-5. Though I have preordered from Adorama (because they have Pay Me Later as a payment option), I decided to order the Zuiko 17mm lens to go with the 12-50 that will come with the camera. I chose to purchase from Cameta because they have open box products, which in this case saved me $70. I placed my order last Saturday night and the lens, with a cleaning kit and UV filter added for 95 cents(!), arrived this afternoon. I think Cameta is now my favorite Internet supplier!

Just thought you might like to know.

glad that you had an excellant transaction with them. we tend to be quick to state when a company does bad, we should also be quick to state when they do good. I am very jealous of you. the Oly omd e-5 looks so darn cool, and im drooling. don't care for the nikon j-1 etc but that oly speaks to me.

I've done a lot of research of late. I wanted to stay with Nikon, but as you said, the Oly kept calling my name.

Should have added, now if I can just get it. They're all on preorder. The Adorama rep said they should start getting them the 4th week of June. Don't know where I stand in terms of order. I've read that those who order kits are better off than those who went with bodies only. And, I ordered silver... very popular, it seems. I've read only one reviewer who preferred black.

They are only a few miles away from me. I do get most of my gear from them, along with B&H in the city. Never had a problem with either of them.

I sometimes buy from them ,but I made a mistake selling them some cameras,I received only 10%of their value.A collector item that they gave me $40.00 ,they sold for $400.00

A collector item?

Were you aware of their value before you sold them to them?

Did you check anyplace else?

I bought my refurbished Nikon D5000 kit from Cameta. I wanted to use BillMeLater and ship to an address different from my billing address. Cameta doesn't do that, and it took weeks to sort out. Cameta, PayPal and BillMeLater were all over the place with non-solutions until I finally got that answered.

I don't know who to blame for that. Overall, I'd rate my experience with Cameta as very satisfactory, and I'd have no problem going back to them.

I didn't see Pay Me Later as an option at Cameta. Need to pay better attention, I guess. I've used this to buy a couple of lenses for my D7000. As long as you pay it off in 6 months, you're golden.

You select BillMeLater after you click on PayPal.

Thanks, I'll remember that. However, once I receive my Oly EM-5 I won't be using Pay Me Later for at least six months!

There is one thing I like about Cameta, they do not penalize you for being local. If you look up a price online but drive to their store, they honor that price. Their local competition does not honor their own online price in many cases.

Cameta's store is small, but you can purchase anything available on their website at their store and simply drive several miles to their warehouse to pick it up. Overall, I like Cameta.

Their local competition once charged me an extra 20% on the purchase of a battery because "the salesman was providing me with more service", even though the only "service" was running my credit card so I could pay.

Cameta does not have a two price policy, one for the website, and another for their brick and mortar store. This is the biggest reason I like Cameta.
