How do you see the world, some see it in a normal way, some see and take in wide wide views and some like to focus on details, for most people the most use full lens covers a 24 to 70 mm or 24 to 120 mm range.
I use a Pentax K5ii the lense that I get the most use from is a 17-70 mm f 2.8-4.5, followed by a Pentax 12-24 mm F 4. last the 120-400 mm Sigma.

Regardless of brand, a 35mm f/1.4 and a 100mm (105 for Nikon) macro would cover just about everything. Maybe throw a small 24mm f/2.8 in a pocket if you really must.

I walk around with a 35mm 1.4 on my Nikon Df.
But, my 70-200 2.8 does most of the work--next to the 24-70 2.8.

Walk around with a 35/1.4 on my Leica (a 35/2 on my Nikon Df), but a 50mm (50/0.95 for Leica, 50/1.2 for Nikon) does most of the work. I don't own a zoom lens and don't plan on buying one any time soon.

For landscape on my D800 I use the 16-35. It has VR, is tack sharp, and since you should be above f16 for landscape there is no need for a f2.8.
For other stuff except wildlife I like the 24-85.

I have a 16-35, 50, 70-210 and a 170-500mms and can double that if shooting wildlife. Looks like I am covered. Thanks to each of you for your replies

My D810 seems to have the Nikon 16-35 mm f4 lens permanently attached to it. That said, the other lens I carry for landscapes is the Nikon 24-120 f4. Both lenses take the same filter size, so, if I need more reach, I switch to the 24-120. Both lenses are extremely sharp. And, along with these lenses I also carry a NIKON FLASH, cause they are so much better than the cheap imitations out there today. Ride with the brand, and you'll be a fan.

before I bought the D500 I used the D810 for everything with a large variety of lenses ranging from wide-angle to Telephoto

Since you asked...I'm not suggesting doing what I do, just providing info.
I use my Galaxy S7 phone for flowers. I takes excellent images and the convenience can't be beat.
My favorite subjects are birds. I use both the D810 and D500 with Nikon lenses 200-500, 80-400G and 70-300 AF-P DX. I even shoot the DX lens on the FF D810 in the DX mode. When light is less than ideal I add a SB-800 or SB900 with a flash extender. My preference is the SB800 because if its size.

I have other lenses for different purposes with coverage of 14mm to 750mm.
