Watched a Nikon lens review on YouTube presented by 3 ladies from Great Briton.
I found it amusing to hear them pronounce the products name as Knee-Kon. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜

I have always pronounced it as Ny-Kon. ๐Ÿ™‚ You thoughts ?

It's a Japanese word and the citizens are pronouncing it correctly, as does pro photographer Matt Granger. Americans pronounce it they see it spelled. This has been discussed last year on a previous post, and there were varied opinions then. I don't think the Nikon Corporation cares how we pronounce it, so long as we continue to buy their gear.

Americans have been pronouncing it Ny-Kon for at least 50 years that I know of. No reason to change now.

It is a contraction of "Nippon Kogaku". Even Americans said "Nips" and not "Nypes" during WW II.

Since you're standing corrected on the word Nikon, Dude, you might also like to know that the 3 ladies on YouTube come from Great Britain ....... a "Briton" (more usually shortened these days to "Brit") is a person who comes from GB. Probably more important in maintaining the peace here on UHH than the different ways we each pronounce "Nikon" !!

This problem vexed me so much that I went and bought a CANON (or was it a CANNON).

I agree.

I studied Japanese language and also did business in Japan.

They pronounce it "knee-kon".
