Using a Nikon AI-S lens on a d7200

I was able to pick up a Nikon PB-4 bellows at a really good price recently and I'm looking for a 35mm f/2 or f/2.8 lens that I can use as a reverse mount lens on the bellows. What I would like to do is be able to use the lens on both the bellows and on my 7200 or my old 5000 since I don't have a 35mm lens in my collection. My compatibility charts show that it is compatible in A or M mode only which isn't a problem and it obviously not AF. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever used an AI-S lens (which is one I found at a good price)and specifically the 35mm f/2 or f/2.8 on their digital cameras and if they found any limitations to the lens. I like the 35mm because when reversed it will give me about a 6.5:1 magnification ratio on the bellows.

I don't have the 35mm f/2.8 nor the D7200 but I am sure it would work fine by itself. You can use only A or M and you have to adjust the aperture using the aperture ring and you have the enter the lens data into the camera. When using the the bellow I think the meter doesn't work accurately although it would work but not accurately. I use the bellow on my Df and I just guess the exposure or use a hand held meter. Guessing the exposure is much easier because at 6.5:1 magnification you will have to calculate the effective aperture taken into account of bellow extension when using hand held meter. Like I said I found the built in meter is not accurate (I use it on the Df).

I have several AIS manual lens that I use on both my D7200 and D750, 20mm,24mm,28mm, and 55mm micro. I use the 28mm on the D7200 as my standard lens. I enjoy setting the aperture and focus manually, I usually shoot in aperture mode. The lens only work in aperture and manual modes. I love the quality and feel of these lenses as they are much smaller than the newer lens and Nikon seems to not want to make prime DX lenses. They might not be as sharp as the newer digital lenses especially wide open but they work fine for me. Don't have the 35mm but I am sure it is fine if you find a good copy. It will only work in manual mode on your D5000 and won't meter but using the "sunny 16" rule will get you close for outdoor pictures.
