A friend and I are having about 30 of our underwater pics displayed in a store in Cincinnati (coffee shop art stuff thing) for a month. We are going through the printing process and came across metallic prints. Does anyone have experience with these? Before I drop $300 on getting these printed, I wanted to know if they would work.

I had one made up and they are spectacular.
Imagine the difference between a CRT TV and High Definition TV and you begin to understand the difference these make over traditional prints.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love these things. But, they are expensive.

They are exceptional. My friend shoots mostly landscapes and has entered many in contests that were printed on metallic paper. She won awards for many of them.

Order 1, first - see if YOU like it - before ya 'drop $300' on more?

We ordered my step daughters Senior Photos in Metalic. They are amazing! Really stand out when put next to a regular print.

They work great, especially when well lit or with natural light. I find I need to make a biased contrast curve, with dark darks, tapering to lighter lights with lighter than normal mids. A normal contrast for me shows up too dark on the metallic print. Maybe make a test print with strips of different adjustments to print first and see how you like it.

Just do it! They really impress and are ready to hang.

They can look great, but as with any paper, some images look better on some papers than others. I think the advice for a test print is something to consider.

I personally think they look better on landscapes and such. I don't care for the look on portraits. I suggest a test and make your own decision, they can be beautiful and really pop on some shots.

We had a business that specializes in this type of work speak at one of our Photo Club meetings recently. All I can say is
WOW, very impressive! Once on metal, they are pretty much resistant to everything imaginable. He even lit a small blowtorch and tried to destroy one of the metal prints. It didn't do a thing to it. As far as the cost, yes it's expensive but not if you consider these prints are ready to hang on your wall. If you have ever had anything professionally matted and framed you are in the same dollar arena when you add the frame, matte, etc.

It depends on the image. Some are greatly enhanced and some are not. Perhaps a test print would be worth the effort.

I think they are great. It will not make an ordinary photo great but will make a great photo spectacular.
