Venice can be quite beautiful at the right time of day, and after the glut of day tourists have dissipated.

It works primarily on landscapes. Try putting it on its own layer in Photoshop, and changing the layer opacity till you like the end result.
(I think I should have edited the final product to reveal more detail in the people and features immediately along the canal.)

I like the Orton effect. If there was only one place I could go in Europe, it would be Venice. Always been enchanted with it. Great photo!!! ;-)

I'd suggest you visit Venice outside the summer months when it's o-v-e-r-r-u-n with tourists, as are other "famous" European locales. Perhaps visit during the "shoulder seasons".
