Normal v. Active

When I bought my Nikon 70-300 VR lens used, it did not come with the owner's manual. I see that there is a setting on the lens for "Normal" or "Active". I ask this august body when would be an appropriate time to use each of those settings. I have kept it on the "Normal" setting since I have owned the lens.

Get the Nikon Manual Viewer app and then download whatever manuals you want.

To your question, the "active" setting, according to my take, is used when you are in situations that produce more vibration or shake than a normal handheld scenario, e.g.: in a moving vehicle. Enjoy the lens.
