My hubby just put in for a transfer back to Canada, while it's not back home to Edmonton, it does get us closer to family, which is what we have been wanting for a while. We've lived in Texas for the last 7 and half years and both feel it's time to move back home.

Our children have lost touch with their Canadian roots (our youngest is 8 so she doesn't remember home at all), our parents are getting older and if anything were to happen it would be a nightmare trying to get home quickly. It's gotten to the point where the cons are starting to out weight the pros for our living in the US and we made the choice to put in for the transfer after thinking long and hard about it.

So if you could all think positive, I would appreciate it.

My father was in the navy, and my mother just liked moving house. Things were complicated by the fact that he liked (and likes) new houses whereas she liked old ones (she died 40 years ago, in her early 40s). By the time I was 19 I had moved 19 times, from my grandmother's house in Cornwall where I was born to my parents' first house in England to Malta... and England... and Malta again... and England again... and Scotland... and Bermuda...

The kids will get over it. An intriguing figure from the INS is that since records began, 1 in 3 of the immigrants to the USA have moved back to their own countries.

Incense lit for you & the move..

Cheers,

R.

Mega positive thoughts heading your way. I sure hope you get the transfer you want. As a military family, I remember waiting for orders and hoping they were the ones that we had put in for. Being closer to family is always a plus. Best wishes for you and the family.

I tried to come home after a 14 year absence and brought my family of 4 kids and wife who had never lived here. After a very short time, they were all like natives and two of them still live here after 45 years. I know you will be just happy being among familiar sights and sounds. Best of everything to you and yours.

Just think of all the winter wonderland photos you will be able to take!!!

(And you will get to buy new camera gear---especially a snow coat for your camera.

Speaking as an Air Force brat that moved way too many times,(22 schools to graduate from high school), I adapted each time and made many new friends.
Being close to family is very important in my eyes. We are living with and caring for my mother in law with Alzhiemer's and being far away would not have worked. I have only been on this site a short time but I have a lot of respect for you from your posts.. You have spunk, intellegence and a sense of humor. You will do fine and I will add you to my prayers for the correct decision.

Here's a not so wild guess: I'll bet your family up there will be as thrilled to have you closer, as you will to be closer. Sounds like a win/win situation and we don't have to lose you and your priceless contributions here that so many are benefiting from. All the best to you and your family, MWAC!
