On 06/05/2012 I presented to the forum the question - Do we need a section for the truth about images submitted for critique - the results of the votes are No 15 -- Yes 12, with the No's winning.
So I will not be pursuing this any farther. Thank You all for your opinion.
so there 's agreement we should lie?
Sounds like it. Can't hurt anyone's feelings or step on toes.
I have always found that the truth does not hurt so much if it is offered with a little praise as you should always be able to find something positive even in the worst photo's and that if constructive criticism is offered in a positive manner it is generally appreciated... I am sure that people would rather get better in their photography rather than pursing through other's wonderful photos knowing that theirs don't come close.

When I post an image here I'm not looking for comments on the focus or the exposure, the dof, or god forbid - the bokeh. I know what i am doing in all those respects and I do not post any image here or on my website that does not meet my current understanding and level of craft and creativity.
So, what I am looking for when I ask for critique is - does the image (s)
evoke anything? Pleasure? Curiousity? Imagination? Disgust?
Does it elicit anything from the viewer? A memory, a story - a sense of wonder? a smile of delight? A groan of resignation? A visceral "Yuck" or "akkkk."
Does it garner more than a passing glance? Does it pull you in? Does it turn you off?
I don't want to hear "  its a wall hanger." By that standard I have lots of images that are wall hangers.
is this possible? Maybe if others who have also expressed an interest in more critical feedback were to give voice to the type or range of feedback they would like, we could come up with some decent guidelines for a forum of that type................hmmm where is the english wolf when he is needed??

end the end just remember that little red goes home and the wolf is killed.
It doesn't take long here to figure out who are the people who respond to any criticism with questions about where your photos or your website are, or about how what a terrible photographer you are. We see threads from them about once a week.
Takes less effort to avoid them than it does to tell them to suck it up.

Sorry Docrob, I didn't read the full thread. My bad (gosh did I really just say that, lol).
I was referring this part of Rachel's post.

If you need to hear a lie about your photo's then there is a daily challenge which is full of people who don't know how to take pictures and tell each other what a great photo they took. Including the OP. It's hilarious stuff. I check it everyday just to get a good laugh. It's really more of a chat room for the P&S and auto focus people.
So as far as a lied goes, many people on the UH usually are looking for that. A lie makes them feel good about there photography. They are not interested in hearing or learning about how to improve, because then they would have to come to term about how dismal there photography really is. And coming to terms with your work of art can really hurt ones ego.
Harsh, but true.

Agree 200% with you! Alike photography professorial teach the students about right and wrong of the images which they shoot. It surely help their learning better benefits for the future. Tell truth and help them than hiding truth so they will never truely learned. Just tell the truth, they will be greatly appreciated for learning much better next time. So they will have great valueable benefits. Even some professional photographers still learn forever.
I haven't been "inside the hog" very long and love the site, warts and all....I posted my first hummingbird shot which for me is far and away the best photo I have taken, and I got a few "really good shot" type of comments and also some constructive and accurate criticism (I'm not experienced with pp, and had pumped up the color too much), and I much appreciated the time taken to critique my photo....and it was also spot-on as the criticism was about my over saturated color....in short, for me, criticism is much appreciated, and I personally don't care how tactful or tactless it might come...I would love to get "English Wolfed" someday....that's how we learn!
Aarrrooooooo Wolfie, do you hear us calling you???
Please come home!!!

It would appear as though the gutless sheep have once again spoken. Critical thinking is in danger as long as they are the majority. Imagine that.

Thanks for all those that supported my point of view, and over looked my spelling and diction.
