OK, you have a 480 mm F4 prime lens. LEARN TO GET CLOSE. Or, if you must, use the smallest converter you can, in this case, the 1.4 which should give you a 672mm f4 prime lens. If this is not enough, then I suggest buying a bigger lens. A CONVERTER, REGARDLESS OF MANUFACTURE, WILL DEGRADE (TO SOME EXTENT) THE IQ OF THE LENS. PERIOD.
Almost right, he will have 672 at f/5.6, one stop loss with the 1.4. You would have a view of 960 at f/8.0 with the 2X. Look up Arthur Morris on the internet and see what he does with extenders. Everyone's right, there is more of a loss with the 2X. I always carry one with me for when I just can't get any closer but still want that shot. I do feel that the amount of "wall hangers" will diminish with the 2X. One more thing, when you use an extender or if you'd buy a long prime just remember that any movement by you will show up very quickly. You do have to learn how to shoot with the longer lens and at 960 I shoot with a tripod, it sure helps.
