Amazon is going crazy

Amazon (AMZN) was at 206.37 five years ago. One year ago it was at 599.20. Today it's at 923.72. As I recall it was around 870 at the time of the election.

We have some savings beyond what we need for emergencies sitting in the bank earning almost nada. I'm not greedy. I'd like that money to earn something, so I'm going to invest some of it into Amazon. Having read the Morningstar report I do believe that it is still a good investment. For one thing, Amazon does not pay dividends, there won't be tax repercussions. Earnings are put back into the company, the same as Berkshire-Hathaway. Projections from Morningstar were high single-digit to low double digit growth. Since I'm earning nothing now, I'd be happy with some interest. So, Morningstar's projections would be fantastic. Just thought I'd pass it along.

I think the market is a bit high right now. The Dow is up apx 3000pts since a low in October, 2016. I'm sitting
on some cash right now waiting for a correction.

On the otherhand, it was somewhat stagnant for some time before the election.

You may make money on Amazon, but it will take over a week to ship it unless you pay for Prime...

Sounds good, but I prefer to avoid the stock market. I accepted two offers from Loyal3 a few years ago. That's an online brokerage company. I bought a few shares of GoPro and lost a bit when I sold it, and I also bought some Alibaba. I sold that a few days ago for a modest profit. When I say "a bit" and "modest," I bought just $100 of each stock. I don't like gambling.

I almost never buy individual stocks, but use mutual funds. If you're not in the market for the long term
you're not going to find a better investment.

Mutual funds? They destroyed my retirement account.

You're kidding. I've had all my IRA investments in mutual funds since 1990
and they have been stellar. How did you lose money??

Going way back, every time I put my money into mutual, the market crashed. Every time! It was like I was causing it. I'd wait, hoping for a reversal, but it kept declining. Then I would switch my money into a cash account. Then I would go back to mutual months or more later, and the same thing would happen. I had safe, conservative funds, but the market collapsed.

Will rogers said "The way to make money in the stock market is to buy a good stock. Wait for it to go up in price and then sell it. If it doesn't go up, don't buy it."

Works for me.

Ouch. That's too bad. Hope you're reasonably solvent and comfortable.

Yeah. I should have waited for the stock to go up. Then buy! Live and learn.

I have a lovely wife who says she will school-teach for another year.
Now where's that Goose IPA as it is almost the noon hour here.
