I see posts asking about 42nd st. and their reputation. I recently noticed an online offering from 47th St. In my film days I bought a lot of equipment from 47th St. and was treated fairly. Do any of you have recent experience with 47th St.? Thank you.

Yes, 47th St was excellent back in the 1970s. It was a tiny store with a long narrow hall where customers would wait on line to get to the small counter. It was definitely an experience. Then they closed and then reopened under different ownership, etc. Now the name exists, but is anything else the same? I'd stick with the standard sellers.

Any more, I only trust Adorama, B&H, & Cameta (A, B, C). KEH has a good reputation if you're looking for used equipment. If the prices vary from what A, B, & C sell the same item for, it's probably gray market. You'll run into problems if you need warranty service.

I bought six Nikkor lenses from them back in 1981 or so. No problems then, but as Jerry said, new ownership likely has changed that.

Adorama, B&H, Cameta Camera, and KEH are well known to be fast, fair, and honest.

I frequently used 47th St Photo back in 1959-60. ( Yes I am old). It was good then, don't know what happened to it, This was an interesting read. Thanks

47th st. Photo closed serval years ago. At that time, they had a good reputation. The name was either purchased or taken over a few years later and it is now a grey market mecca of upselling and misleading the customers. They are NOT a Nikon authorized dealer and I doubt very much that they are authorized by Canon or many (if any) of the others. I would be very wary of doing business with them.

Another to try is a new(to the US) used photo equipment seller MBP Group Ltd http://www.mpb.com/en-us/used-equipment/-
Got a nice used Oly OMD 10, good service, fair price. Just another possible source.
Don't forget Amazon and eBay if you know what you are doing...

I saw Walmart online ad for a lens last year. It was a third party inexpensive brand. And the ad stated the seller was 47th Street Photo. Not 42nd Street. So maybe they aren't that bad.

They distribute the Opteka line of accessories. I bought an off camera flash cable from them and it broke in 2 weeks. I called them, and they replaced it without requesting a return.

I suspect you have found a great price on their website. I'd call, chat, .. with Adorama, B&H, Cameta, Profeel (only Canon) and see if they will price match. If not, I'd stay away from 47th St. They are NOT an authorized Canon dealer. http://downloads.canon.com/dealer/canon-ad-4-20-17.pdf

I purchased a Nikon camera from them in 2007 as I was lured by the price. Turns out it was gray market, even though I asked before purchasing. It gave me problems from the get go. Their service was terrible and when I finally resorted to sending my D500 to Nikon
they refused to work on it. Just say NO to 42nd St.
