I purchased a bean bag which needs to be filled.
Some like bird seeds, rice, beans, an some filler from Micheal's Crafts.
What do you recommend or suggest?

Anything other than beans, it won't be a bean bag!

Beans. But do keep it away from mice.

I'm looking into this myself. I've read that buckwheat hulls are very lightweight, so if you are packing it, that might be the way to go.

I use Black Oil Sunflower Seeds in mine - picked up a bag at walmart - after filling the bags, gave the rest to the birds...

Since the purpose of the bags is weight, I've always filled my bean or ballast bags with coins, some with 1 cent coins, some with 5 cent coins and some with 25 cent coins. They're heavy and won't get funky if they get wet. Plus, if I'm out and about and find myself low on funds and in need of fuel, I can always get a few gallons for the content of one of the bags.

I use white beans in mine. When I travel I carry it empty and fill it with beans or rice when I get to my destination. You want something fairly heavy in it or it won't provide a solid base.

Buckwheat hulls...google them and get the 5lb. bag. They are used in some pillows because they are non-allergetic. Also, they are light weight...beans and rice are way too heavy with a filled bag.

Even though Winslowe is absolutely right, I would suggest synthetic beads that the little critters will not want and so a rain soaked bag doesn't start sprouting green leaves.

I like rice, it's nice, but beans have also been seen, you can also soar with bird feed, but you can have a blast with Crafts.

Be careful loading it with rice, bird seed and other objects that produce a lot of dust that will go through the material and get into your gear. Using beans serves more than one purpose: no dust, so safe for gear, if you get hungry, you can always eat the beans and if you encounter some load mouth pain in the butt, the beans will provide the fuel to shut them up and get them to leave. Now that's what I call a versatile tool for sure.
