No gasoline to run this John Deere rake. It is however in need of a horse.
I understand the Amish still use these to farm.

Great exposure! That rake looks to be in pretty good shape! I live south of York, Pa., and haven't been over towards Lancaster in a while. But those folks still use horse drawn equipment on their farms. Sounds like an excuse to exercise my Nikon. Thanks for sharing!

We had one on the ranch, all the ranchers called them Buck rakes. When the pedal is pushed to release the hay if your leg is stiff it will throw you off the back of the rake, hence buck rake. Without the tongue it's impossible to tell it's horse drawn.

When I first got the rake it did not look like this. There was a lot of restoration work done and the
color is the John Deere green and yellow. Keeping it painted requires a compressor and a decent
paint spray gun to get all the parts covered. Using a paint brush takes much longer.

I live in Harrisburg, Pa. and I am a retired truck driver. I used to run Lancaster County and it was always interesting to watch the Amish work the fields with horse drawn equipment. I got to know a few from delivering to them. Nice people and nice photo. I like photos of old farm equipment.

Very good shot, Pixelmaster! We go out to Lancaster pretty often and I'm sure I've gotten shots of the Amish using something like this.
