It's been a while since I posted anything. It's been even longer since I dabbled in B&W so I thought I'd post here for feedback. Feel free to show me any improvements that could be made. FYC

I'm getting the slightest impression that the building is leaning to the right. Might be that you levelled it on the horizontal rather than vertical.
But everything else about this seems just right to me. I don't think you'd get much more contrast in there without losing some detail, whilst the foreground trees just provide enough 'framing' without impinging on the building.

I like it.

Great to see you back Whuff....I like your version and am not saying this is an improvement but wanted you to know there is a lot more detail in the structure should you want to bring any of it out...how much if any is all personal preference...

Very appealing with the framing of spring leaves. Love the strong lines of the architecture. My personal preference for details is about halfway between yours and Frank's.

I like your POV, peeking from the forest at the massive back lit monstrosity - too well kept to be haunted, but give it another fifty years!

I was born at the Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown, way back in 1953. My family lived in State Center. We moved to Colorado when I was young. But I do remember. Taylor's Maidrites. tenderloin sandwiches, the do-nut machine in Kresge's window. The Tama Pow wow and the Tallcorn Hotel. I still carry a scar from de-tasseling corn, a leaf sliced me good. I have fond memories of the area.

Nice building. Interesting architecture. Our current Governor (California) refused to live in the executive mansion, preferring an apartment across the street from the capitol building.

It is a good subject that is well portrayed. I think the framing is just fine. Any more intrusive and it might be a problem. Any less, and it would seem incidental and not important. Well done.

I did level it on the vertical but I think maybe just a slight more tweak would help that. Thanks for your comments.

Hi Frank, I like your version a lot. May I ask what your process consisted of? Was it selective adjustment of certain areas using layers? I do like the detail you were able to bring out.

B&W is pretty subjective isn't it? I do very much like Frank's version. I used Nik Silver Efex Pro to process this and played around with it for quite a while before settling on this. Mostly it was an internal debate over how much contrast and detail I wanted.

Thank you John. I haven't had a lot of opportunity the last couple of months to get out and shoot so I made up for it over the weekend and shot at 3 different locations.

I got a chuckle out of your description Piet. Since it's the governors residence, I expect it will still be in pretty good shape 50 years from now, and the forest is just a few trees on the urban lot it sits on. It has been haunted by the current governor though for way too long. The longest serving governor in the country but luckily for the residents of Iowa he will be leaving soon for China as the new ambassador. They can keep him.
