I found this beside the AC unit out back.
Don't have a clue how it got there.
It was all broken up and laying on the ground.

looks like the old style 1990's version of energy management electrical companies used to cycle ac units. Brown out control, you got a break on your bill if they could stop your AC for an hour or so. If I am correct it was wired in the control circuit of your AC compressor 24V. stopped the contactor from pulling in.

Thanks unlucky2. Maybe that's why my AC quit working last year.
