Would have been a great night for astrophotography except for the extreme light pollution from the Aurora Borealis, so I made lemonade from lemons and shot two hours of Aurora subs (717 pix). Created a time-lapse and star trail (below) from the subs. The time-lapse, star trail and a few select images are in the album noted below.

Your posted pic is sweet and your flicker page of the night is much sweeter. These sights are hard to wrap ones head around as the cosmos is so dauntingly huge.
Two abstract thoughts:
It's really hard to think of the auroras as light pollution, and Damn, you live in a photographers paradise.

I've actually shot astrophotography through an Aurora; takes some serious color correction and it isn't constant light pollution, it comes in waves...
Still, a great night under the heavens!

That is probably one of the most unique and beautiful Star Trail assembles I think I've ever seen.
Aurora sure don't bore me Alice.

Thank you
Auroras don't bore me either, just a bit annoying on occasions...

You want annoying, come try and shoot the skies from the Light Pollution.
No Aurora ta bore Ya, just people trying to turn the night into day.
Orange cloud cover the other night. Some of the strangest skies ever.
Hey, I've got a trap set out. A Have-A-Heart live trap.
Baited with some Blue Salmon dog food.
I'm after a cat that killed one of our doves.
A bit different sort of skunk...

If you look at the bottom of my Aurora images/video you'll see your clouds over the town north of us; a nice orange...
Have you tried narrowband imaging? I have several astronomy buddies that shoot from backyards within Calgary with excellent success.

I've caught several feral cats in my skunk trapping "expeditions". I use a boiled egg for bait. Currently going after skunk #7 since about this time last year... I don't need any more of the stinky critters in my shop!!

Someone just pointed out that I wasn't alone under the Aurora. A herd of deer moved in about the 75% point of my imaging session. Evident in the field at the bottom of the video and in at least the last four images in the album. Amazing what the human eye doesn't see at night!!

Yeah, I use an HA7nm when imaging Nebula.
But that's about it. That one filter alone set me back $200. Kind of a big pill to swallow for a chea-pass like me.
Boiled eggs? Yeah we always have some around. The Grand kids call them a snack. (Along with dill pickles)
(Um, the eggs, not the cats.)
I'll try that. Thanks!
Last time I had a feral cat problem, I relocated it 12 miles away.
Never saw that one again.
