The new priest was giving his first sermon. He had practiced many times, and was sure he had it down.
He walked to the podium, and full of confidence, said, "Friends, I am coming..." and went blank.
Remembering his lessons in seminary, he took a step back, gathered his thoughts, stepped back up to the podium, and said, "Friends, I am coming..." and went blank again.
So he stepped back again, regathered his thoughts, strode confidently forward, grasped the podium firmly, and said, "Friends, I am coming..."
And lost his balance, fell forward into the first row, and landed in the lap of an elderly lady.
He started to apologize profusely, but she stopped him, and said, "You told us three times you were coming, I should have expected it!"
