Straightening posts, etc. in Photoshop CC
I haven't used PS for some time and I'm getting back into it. I used to be able to grab the corner of the photo and put it sideways and up and thereby straighten it. I could do this with both sides of the building so that it didn't look like it was getting smaller as it went into the background. Sorry I can't explain this better. I can't remember how I did it, but in looking at various books, I cannot find this process defined. Does this make sense to anyone and can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or, does this method no longer exist? I've looked at how straightening is defined in the books and for some reason I can't seem to make it work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I think you are referring to "Perspective Warp", there are a couple of ways of handling it, so look for it on Youtube and see if this is what you are looking for. Come back if it isn't olr y ou need further help.
Thanks, I'll take a look at that.
I looked at the tutorial and I think it will do what I want to do. It is not the way that I did it in the past, but that is okay. Thanks for the tip. Now all I have to do is watch the video a couple of more times so that I can do it.

I'm by no means an expert but I think you may be looking for the straightening tool in PS. With your photo displayed, click on the the crop tool to open it and you will see the straighten tool at the top. Just select it, and then click and drag horizontally or vertically along a line that should be straight and PS will automatically rotate the picture so it is straight. Hopefully this will help.

On my version of PS (an old one) you hit "SELECT" - "All"; "EDIT" - "Transform" - "Distort". Pull the boxes on the corners or the sides to get the desired effect.

If you have LR, it is even easier. Look under Lens Corrections>Guided or Lens Corrections>Auto. The former works like a charm. I do not remember if PS has this. Or you can struggle with the manual ones but if you are going to do that, you may as well stay in PS. Make sure you turn on the grid to help align things.

This is close, but you need to select 'free transform', and hold down the Ctrl key to while moving the corners.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I just hadn't done it for awhile and I forgot how to do it. Sure sign of old age.
Thanks to everyone who helped me. Can always get help for UHH.
To straighten you use the straighten tool and draw a line on the horizon line and it makes the line level.
