Yes Jerry, reports said it was grounded because of "shallow" waters. Keep in mind it is about 160' high and there is about NINE times that under water.

I head to the Gros Morne area in late May for four months. Have a summer place there with a boat and I can't wait.
If you get around to the Woody Point side ask for Jack at the Hunky Dory. They will tell you where I live.
Sounds like you are on a bus tour though, so you won't have much time on your own. Enjoy!!!!!

You will be taking Route 430 from Deer Lake and that will take you all the way up the coast. To get to where I am you have to get off at route 431 at Wiltondale. Its about 20 minutes from there and well worth the drive. You will be able to visit the world renowned Tablelands which at one time was the bottom of the ocean (a few million years ago) Geologists are still in awe at what they find there. If you haven't got your park passes (online) you can stop at Wiltondale and get passes for the vehicles and all aboard.......free this year from Parks Canada because of Canadas 150th birthday.
Are you by any chance spending a night in Rocky Harbour and catching the show there?

I wondered about that. I can imagine the local businesses seeing tourist dollars rolling in. They have captured an ice berg!

The people there this time of year are just drive-bys so there is not many dollars being left there. Restaurants are not open yet....too early except for maybe a local coffee shop. I see there is a chopper there so he/she might be making a few dollars.

Unless it frees itself, it will take quite a while to melt.

It said to be 42 m 138 ft high above water, given a ratio of 1/5 above water, that would make it 210 m total or approx 689 ft tall and I'd be anchor 560 ft on the sea floor, those are mind boggling figures

When they figure above and below, they base that on the volume of the berg, and it can vary considerably. About 90% of the volume will be below water, but that doesn't mean 90% of its total height. That volume can be spread over a wide, shallow area, or it can be narrower and go deeper.

I wonder if divers will go below to take a look.
