Sony a9 : Announced Today

Sony just announced their new a9 camera this morning.
•World’s First full-frame stacked CMOS sensor, 24.2 MP resolution
•Blackout-Free Continuous Shooting at up to 20fps for up to 241 RAW images
•Silent, Vibration-free shooting at speeds up to 1/32,000 sec
•693 point focal plane phase detection AF points with 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second
• High-resolution, high-luminance Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder
• Extensive professional features including Ethernet port for file transfer, Dual SD card slots and extended battery life
The camera is targeted squarely at the Pro market, i.e. portrait, event, ...
I'm a huge Sony fan and Sony photographer so I'll refrain from commenting, other than to say WOW the specs are amazing!!!!
For Sony photographers this is a wondrous day. :-)

The Sony a9 was announced last night in NYC and this morning by B@H, DP Review, and other places, including UHH. The first reactions are enthusiastic and it looks as though we are all going to experience yet another revolution in digital photography. It is too early to judge image quality but surprises are in store for us. The innovations are staggering: 20 fps, shutter speed 1/32,000, 60 AF/AE , a new battery twice as powerful, and much more. It remains to be seen whether this time Sony can match the overall performance of Nikon and Canon, but the time seems to be approaching when we will be comparing these two old standards to Sony.

Almost every Canon and Nikon lens can be used on a Sony E-mount camera with an adapter, with excellent results as long as you don't care about auto-focus speed.
I say this because adapters are a way of easing the pain (for certain types of photographers) if you are a Canon or Nikon photographer moving over to Sony.

True, Some incredible A-mount glass. If someone would give me some of their A-mount glass I would accept with heartfelt gratitude. :-) Use it on my Sony A7 R II.

Yes! Depending on the subjects. If your subjects is static then you do get 241 identical photos and they are all perfect!

If you don't have the AF speed then do you need 20fps?

Im not moving or planning to move to Sony.

Yes, I get it -- you have no interest in Sony, but for the benefit of some of the photographers on this thread it is a good piece of info: Sony supports most Canon and Nikon lenses using adapters -- and it is a good option as long as you don't care about autofocus speed.

The specs are one thing, actual performance is another thing. 20 fps are only great if most or all the pics are in focus. If that is the case with this camera and and it lives up to the specs flawlessly then Nikon and Canon have found a strong new competitor in the pro camera market, even with the limited native lens selection considered. If the camera is not delivering 16+ pics in focus from the 20 fps Canon and Nikon have not much to worry about right now but this camera should still be like a kick in their asses, reminding them to start taking the mirrorless market seriously before Sony becomes the new full frame king.
