This works very well for me as it is.
I wonder how it would look with the building not so centered (more to the right).

The treatment, (post processing) is one I'm not familiar with Steve. Although, the treatment fits the title very well. I'm in agreement with Richard and wondering about the building being off center. Another thought and one in which I would have taken direction, is of course B&W with a darker version. My first thought of this image was "Isolation". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GBDN3G0QoU
Just my thoughts but yours fits as well !!! Nice work.

What's the dream young Steve? A wooden shack in the wilderness does not seem like much of a loss to me or is this supposed to represent an old time rancher or dirt farmer type? Not sure if your aware but Tennyson was born in Lincolnshire in the UK which is a large county that is very flat and in the main farmland so this cottage/shack could actually have been something he saw during his young life. He was not born into poverty so may not have done a lot of dreaming about sheds though.
Re the texture effect to me it looks like its been put on with a roller whereas a much more subtle look building them up using multiple textured layers would have produced a better result. Is this some slap it all over texture software?
Put a building in the middle of the shot and one can guarantee the shout will go up to move the building to one side. As the shot is all about the building I'd feel inclined to ask what improvement having the building moved would make? You saw it you shot it as you saw fit so go with with it my man. Just bin the roller and apply texture ala min who understands subtle and uses them to enhance her images rather than making them all about the texture.

I like this image a lot. Of course I am forever a nostalgic sucker for an old decrepit building. I think textures work very well with these structures, especially when the composition is simple like this, even textures applied more extremely as this one is. This would not work if there was a bunch of other stuff in the frame The centered composition doesn't detract at all for me, it is actually a plus, but I like centered compositions for their geometry, and I know I'm in the minority on that. One thing that might be worth trying is a slightly darkened vignette, to help balance out the strength of the texture (for lack of a better way to describe it). This reminds of images I've seen on the Photomorphis site, a vendor I follow because I (a) like their work and (b) they sometimes give some of their expensive textures and presets away free.

Love the colors and light, as well as the amount of sky you chose to include. Glad you left in the two elements on left (remind me of clothesline posts). I like the in-your-face pp! Always just personal preference, and often the same image can be successful with many looks. I sometimes give up trying to decide and keep 3 or 4 versions of the same shot

I might try to define the two front windows a tiny bit more, but that's a minor point.

I thought the same but my instinct said otherwise. Please feel free to edit and show the options! S-

Something about the centering calls to me but I hadn't thought of a vignette where even a subtle one might help. Please feel free to edit. S-

I appreciate your comments and am of the same where I'll run through several versions then pit one against another until I finally let one win. When I first saw the elements on the left they felt like old grave markers, but the more I sat with it the more I agree it was a clothesline and it felt right keeping them there.

Please feel free to edit as you like for you know I love to see through other people's eyes to know what I cannot! S-

I'm not keen on the processing Steve but that's down to my personal tastes rather than anything else. Others have mentioned that they are not keen on the subject being centred, I like it that way.

I have pictures of small buildings where I have centered the building and the horizon too... Very avant garde stuff...

I fear post processing will always be a work in progress, but that's the fun in it, and I appreciate the rest but it was more like it choose center. Thank you! S-
