60D sounds

This is going to sound dumb but my new 60D "klunks" instead of "clicks". It's almost like a very slow shutter speed. Definitely different than my old XTi. Any thoughts? thanks

I had an XSI and now have a 60D, yep, my shutter is noisy also.
I find the clunk annoying and noisy but that's the only thing I dislike
about it. It appears to have no negative effect on exposure etc.

What happens if you turn the shutter sound off in your camera set-up?

ah shucks I just listen to it clunk! So far it has not scared off the birds. Plus I didn't even know one could turn of the sound! Apparently this is just the way it is with the 60D

I have a 60 D, I would love to turn the sounds off the shutter. One of the first things I have done with my cameras. Any idea how to do it?

I have and still use a 60D from when they first came out. Seems like 4 or so years ago. Used a lot but looks and acts brand new.
I was never able to get the shutter count though and would love to know just how many clicks I put on that shutter.

No unusual noise at all.

There is a thread that I started in the questions sort of area, it was on how to find the shutter count. There were several suggestions, I however did not have any luck with them. My camera would never connect with the online programs. I use Picasa, it does show the shutter count under properties. I can only assume it includes the clicks from the previous owner as well, after all the camera does not know one owner from another. If that be true, I really got a bigger bargain than I initially thought, until Christmas, it had under 1,000.

I really hope you are right. When I open a file in Picasa and edit it it shows the Properties but not the shutter count. Please tell me where to find it. I hope you are not looking at the shutter speed.

Page 157 and 159 in the 60D Instruction manual tell you how to set the shutter in silent mode. It is only "quieter" than normal and only in Live view shooting.

This is a DSLR. You can't turn the shutter sound of a DSLR off because what you are hearing is the sound of a mechanical shutter box and a mechanical mirror moving out of the way, not a generated electronic sound. Some cameras have modes that lessen the sound somewhat, but you can't turn it off.

You are right of course but now hear this.....

If you lessen the sound enough can you still hear it?

Like if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there, does it make a sound?

You will absolutely still hear it. It only lowers the sound a bit.
