Recovery of inaccessible images on SD card

HedgeHoggers,
For whatever reason, my 64GB microSD memory chip/via adapter no longer works in my Sony RX-10. The camera wants me to format it! However, since there are valuable pix on the non-readable SD card, I was wondering if any of you HH out there can recommend any free "recovery" software out there that might help me recover the inaccessible images before I format the memory card? Have Windows 7 computer! Thanks in advance!

Do a google search for image recovery software. There are lots of them, even free ones. Just watch for spy and adware when you download the free ones.

Will the card read in the computer?

Interestingly-YES, the SD card DOES read in the computer! But NOT in the Sony RX-10 camera- in the camera, the Sony diagnostic says to format the memory card!

So then, what's the problem? Just download the images to your computer. And immediately back them up to an external drive, or whatever back-up method you use.
After you check to see that the images transferred safely to your computer and back-up, you pop the card back into the camera and format it - in the camera.
Just wondering: Have you had the computer format the card before you took the photos that are now on it? If so, stop that practice and format in camera - always!

If by chance, you cannot download directly to computer, I suggest the program 'recuva' by piriform.
I've had very good success with that, and it's free.

Check with the card mfg, they usually offer a recovery program. But if your computer reads the card, ehats the problem? Download the images, toss the micro card and get a full size sd card. Your camera is an image capture device, nlt a storage or display. You want to show people picture, put them on your phond or make prints.

So transfer the image files to the computer hard drive, then you can reformat in-camera. Do have more than one digital camera. Their respective file formating might be at odds.

FWIW, this is the exact approach i would take had this happened to me with ANY camera.
