These two shots were taken with D500, 80-400 4.5 - 5.6 vr lens, 1/5000 @6.3 iso 1100.
I am trying to push the iso and the shutter speed as to not get motion blur.
Comments welcome.

I'd say mission accomplished! You might want to level up the second shot just a bit as long as you are in the crop tool. great shots!

Nicely done. It's interesting that in the second one, both players are looking at the umpire. I wonder what he was saying!

Wow! Crystal clear... Razor sharp... and at ISO 1100 the noise level is totally doable...
Appears that wide open this lens' acuity may be a tad sharper at 116mm (35mm equivalent: 174mm) then at 400mm (35mm equivalent: 600mm)
However it's so close as to be negligible i.e. unimportant which shouts volumes about the optic's wonderful rendering attributes...

And once again, superb timing in both captures...
You're a master of baseball imagery...
Filling the frame with a perfect angle of view...

Thank you for sharing Jules...
I grow professionally every time I view your work...

Nice shots but I would go with a little motion blur to show the action!

Seems both images have frozen the motion nicely. At 1/5000 there should be no problem freezing motions. In my experience, when over 1/1000 typically the motion will freeze with a Nikon D3s and 70-200mm 2.8 lens. Nice work. Do you know where the focus point was in each photo? I have run into issues where I think there is motion blur only to find out I missed the focus point e.g. focused on the body instead of the face.
