The semi pro series of Nikon bodies have been weather resistant all the way back to the D70

I think d7500 offers only one card slot, strange !? It's good to have a second card for back up.

Not sure what Government Accounting Standards (GAS) have to do with this camera, but some of us like to acquire new gadgets. It's not like it's this is a syndrome or anything; I've been considering upgrading my D5200 for a while now. I was vacillating between the D500 and the follow-on to the 7200, which I figured would be a D7300. I think Nikon skipped from 7200 to 7500 to establish a link between the 7xxx series and the D500. Seems the 7200 uses the same sensor and other things. It's like the D500 innards in a smaller, cheaper package.

Asside from physical characteristics, does the D7500 offer anything the D500 doesn't?

Near as I can tell the D7500 has a built-in flash that the D500 lacks and the monitor tilts.. Apart from that, it's a light smaller and lighter. The D500 has 2 slots and a better monitor that does not tilt.

My D500 has an articulated screen. Not as versatile as on some of my Canon's but still articulated. I'm not a big fan of built-in flash on a DSLR, rarely use it. I prefer external flash. Looks like no GAS for me.

It's definitely not a step up from the D500. And not much from the 7200.

From what I can tell, it's not really a step up front the D7200 either. Adopting many of the features of the 500 is a good thing but the 7200 is an excellent camera as it is. I see it as more like what Canon did with the 77D, a melding of the Rebel series with the XXD series. For someone who has something technologically inferior then it is a good step up.

You can count me in that group ... and with this new camera I'm hoping prices for the 7200 (my next step up) will come down a little.
