I purchased the sony a6300 back in January for a trip to Spain and Sweden. Was satisfied with the pics I took and havent used the camera much since. Went to an Orchid show this weekend with my wife and while taking pics it became apparent very quickly that the color of in the pic's was visibly off vs the actual colors. The pic's still look good but the colors aren't accurate. I shot straight out of the box jpg's. Anyone have a similar problem and find a solution?

The solution can be found with a thorough reading of the owner's manual.

It involves use of white balance controls.

Do not assume that cameras with automatic features will automatically solve all your problems. And NEVER assume the camera is defective when you don't get what you want. 99% of undesirable results are caused by inappropriately setting the controls. All automatic functions can be fooled... All manual controls can be mis-set for current conditions.

I forgot which one, but somewhere in Tony and Chelsea Northup's YouTube channel, is a mention of how Sony's color representation is somewhat "off."

'somewhat off'? now that would be a little difficult to assess I would think. I have had two Sony cameras and whilst I am still learning the SLT I would guess that colour is somewhat personal. Like exposure, it varies moment to moment.

Chances are that the poster's problem is WB or if indoor orchids the lighting was competing with sunlight.

Get a Canon M5.
Canon always has perfect color.

Certain colors, notably reds and purples, are just not within the color gamut of most (if not all) sensors. On a more mundane level, If you are shooting AWB the Sonys make pretty awful white balance decisions when shooting brightly colored objects.

I have the A6300 and have never had an issue with color and I shoot in many types of light. If you were shooting a jpeg in Auto mode, I'm wondering if you changed the Creative Style which can be found in the Menu under Camera, number 5. That or white balance would change the colors you experienced. Good luck! It's an awesome camera!!

yes - its a good camera - for the 1% of people who can figure out the menu systems.
The menus are widely regarded to be incomprehensible. of course - if you have mastered them - then the camera should be good.
Color is Sony is ok - but still not as good as Canon.
I was commenting that the color in Fuji is generally not widely regarded as being that good.

I disagree on the menus. I found them as easy to follow as Canon, which I used for many years. Gary Friedman published an excellent book on the camera with detailed instructions on all settings. My color with the Sony is just as good as any Canon I owned, including the 7D with L lenses.

You have a color correction problem. Shoot raw and corrections can be made in software.

I guess your experiences are different than Ken Rockwells.
