goodby circus, too bad, so sad.
last night I watched a piece on the closing of "the greatest show on earth". due in part to the cost of operating and maintanance plus the efforts of animal rights groups. the circus became a wonderful institution beloved by generations. what will we loose next to quest for safety and a favorable image? will boxing, hockey, and football bite the dust???

. There has been evidence of animal cruelty in the Circuses. We can live without Circuses. If NFL football were banned, it would set off Depressions to the highest degree in America.

We can live without hocky, football and baseball but the circus is a special world of wonder and daring.
The animal rights activists need to take a hike, People who depend upon their performing animals for a living
tend to take much better care of them than the average homeowner does of their pets.
Cirque du Soleil is doing fine with no animals.
A ton of hay to feed in the 60 70s cost $30. Now 300
Every year there is a circus that parks itself next to my house; the wonder of the people (and their litter) the noise, music loud enough to bounce pictures off the wall. the smells, all they have now is a couple of camels, beautiful horses and dogs that know dozens of tricks. But what you put in one end comes out the other. THe place smells like a barnyard. The smell isn't near what it used to be with 4 elephants, 2 rhinos and dozens of horses. They've scaled back considerably but the noise is terrible. They are here from the middle of October till Feburary. This is their home base so they don't perform that whole time. The people for the most part are decent. We talk across the fence and get to know them. When they leave here they go to Brownsville for a couple of weeks then up the east coast. The main tent is twice as big as it was starting out. The circus buys the r.v.s for them. so they are not going broke.

With their technical needs they can afford to visit San Fran but you'll never see them
doing a 2 night stand in a town of 5000 residents.
The parade of wagons and animals from the train station, thru the center of town,
too the fairgrounds was something to look forward too each spring.
When the biggest animals you had seen were the pair of clydesdales that pulled
the fire wagon. an elephant was awesome as it helped erect the main tent.
So many adventures for the young mind from cotton candy to sneaking a peak under the tent flaps
or watching the acrobats practice.
And if you were lucky enough to earn a quarter for dragging a couple
bales of hay over to the elephants, you had bragging rights for a week.

Leave basketball alone✌
ok, you can keep the basketball, if you ditch the soccer, wrasling, and rugby and make boxing free to view.
You enjoyed greyhound racing? I always thought of it as cruel to the animals, I don't think they do this anymore but I'm not sure.
