Canon 7D video to computer

Maybe this has been discussed before. I am on a trip with my laptop. I have transferred a couple of videos that I shot to my computer. They are very choppy. A Google search told me I needed a MVI converter to something else in order to be viewed properly on my laptop. Is this true? If so, what software do I use?

That happened to me at first.Don't know how I fixed it.Know i only use 1080HD an use Adobe Premiere Elements 10 works great no problums

I had to update my video card to down;pad video from my 7d! It was more advance then my 1 year old Dell!
