Moon Mosaic

I mounted a QHY 183C on my Celestron 8" EdgeHD to shoot Jupiter and decided to shoot the Moon while I was at it. Since the field-of-view of this configuration is only about a quarter of the Moon the image ended up being a five image mosaic created from the best two images from five 100 frame videos. The video was processed in AutoStakkert and the mosaic created in Autopano Giga.

The download image is 50% of full scale.

Atmospheric conditions on the eastern slopes of the Rockies are often rocking and roiling. The video clip at https://www.flickr.com/photos/58664881@N02/33769364591/ shows what conditions were like when I shot the Moon; not stable! It is hard to get a great image under these conditions; primarily the reason for only showing a half scale result !

Enjoy!

P.S.: Even after 40+ years of astrophotography and probably many hundreds of Moon images I still find the Moon an interesting target... Maybe I'm just getting lazy and it is an easy target!??

The detail is very good. But the contrast is a bit too harsh. I tried to tone it down and it improved it a bit, but with only using a JPG, I didn't have much range to play with and didn't achieve what I wanted to do.

And it wasn't even drug induced... Although Canada is moving down the road to recreational marijuana.

Very nice mosaic Brian and it's amazing to see all the atmospheric distortion in the Video.
No wonder it's so hard to get beautiful clear Astro Photos.

It is seldom I get a night that doesn't have the impact of the Rockies' air flow causing atmospheric turmoil!

Don't mind at all. The image is public domain.

I like the result. I should commission you to do all my processing...

Thanks, I like to play around. I haven't done a moon shot in a while.
