Recently I've taken an interest in textures and started a file for the future when I learn layers and making composites.
Instead of using online images belonging to others, some free, some not... I've found satisfaction in making and finding my own.
Does anyone else do this?
I have a lot of them of dirt an rock. Love my Multi colored layers of them.
Very nice set. These would all make great backdrops.
I think you have a fantastic eye for abstracts, Trish! I am really drawn to the frosted grating and what appears to be frost + melted on a window that's posted below it.
I'm curious if you've been able to use the more distinctive, strong patterns as textures and if so, would you post a few? As you saw, I tried your rain-through-window, but it was far from "blended" - lol. Also, another I have that's a little like your #2 I used as a major element in an image, really more a composite than texture.
I only have one photo in my files that I shot specifically to try as a texture, but I know other folks do stock up regularly
So glad you posted this thread, hoping more discussion will follow!
I do but had rather buy textures/overlays someone else has made. As a rule they're always prettier than the ones I collect on my own. Yours are beautiful.
A very good idea. Another idea is to make a collection of clouds. These can be textures or just used to spruce up a dull photo.

Have to admit Islandgal I have only been doing this since God was a lad!

I love working with textures, whether they are the ones I shoot or the ones I get (mostly for free) from other sources. I like some kinds that I just don't do myself (the ones that are paper and fabric based), so my collection is a combination of sources. Here's a few of my own shots that I've used for textures.

Those are very appealing images, I especially like the last two for their delicate texture, easier to work with than the stark textures I've shot! I did find this interesting dappled bark recently. Thank you for contributing Minnie!

Please share a few of your favourites if you get a moment Billyspad! I like to see what other's do.

Mother nature provides a lot of textures for free! Thanks for dropping in Dirtpusher.
