After seeing several topic about plastic cameras body problems and batteries, I thought a heads up on double A batteries might be in order. For those of you as well as myself who have plastic bridge cameras. You need to know that all AA batteries are not the same length and that could be the reason for the broken battery door. I found out the hard way on my wife's Nikon Coolpix. She needed some fresh batteries and I loaned her a pair of Rayovac rechargeable that I use in my old Minolta Dimage 7i. It has a medal body and battery door. They sold for around nine hundred dollars and were rated at five MP in 2002. Anyway, she installed the batteries and about a week later we discovered the latch on the Coolpix broken. With no easy way to fix the latch, I decided clear strapping tape would be the way to keep the door closed and it wasn't real noticeable. It worked but the door seemed harder to close than before and after a few days the door was no longer shut tight. I wondered if there was something different about the batteries and located the old ones. With a caliber I found that bodies of the batteries were the same length, but the positive post on the Rayovac was taller. I check out some other brands of AA batteries that we used at work and found that the post varied in length. I think this could be the reason why the plastic latches or hinge fails.
Recently I replaced the batteries in a TV controller, but couldn't get it to work. I discovered the positive posts on the batteries were to short to reach the contacts on the controller. Without any other batteries, I ended up using a razor knife to trim the plastic so the battery posts could make contact with the controller.
Some are fatter than others, too. Something to be aware of, definitely.

I know that one first hand - had some duracell batteries that were too fat for a flash light of mine.
This is one thing I love about this place, I learn something new everytime I visit. Thanks to all.

I came across that with old the ni-cads, but not with newer batteries. I'll be aware.
