I'm making a big purchase of 4 major lenses from Hong Kong. Does anyone know if there are duties/tariffs being levied on Asian import/purchases since President Trump took office?

Please advise ASAP! I have to place my order for a big trip!

I order lenses all the time and No, I do not believe anything has changed.

That is why many camera stores are closing because everyone wants to buy from over seas to save money. When we sell in this country to over seas our prices are so high and are taxed so no one will purchase from us. You want the best of all worlds.

You will probably be assessed by Customs. Don't be shocked if you are. They'll intercept the shipment and hold your lenses 'till you pay. It shouldn't be more than about 10%.

I had to pay customs duty fees in 1968, for a camera purchased in Hong Kong.Sorry, you can't blame this one on President Trump

There are customs duty fees which may have to be paid. Its not from Trump its been that way for many years.
Sometimes on large purchases you'll pay customs fees and the cost will be more than if u bought the item in the USA.

To get around it, on the custom tag, some shippers place a price of a lot less then the actual purchase price. which means you will pay less.

In your case I don't think what Congress may do matters. The last time I looked at the duty laws anything over the per couple $$ limit is taxable unless purchased in the USVI or another territory and is was made there. A Japanese camera purchased from a distributor in the US is already duty paid; the duty customs collects at the borders is just evening things out. There ain't no free lunch or escaping the duty, unless you want to try smuggling it past the agents; trying and getting caught is far more expensive that the duty.
