Does anybody have any idea what this may be? I know it is a weed, but it is trying to take root in my garden. Any help would be apprecitated. I know the pic is not that good, but it was taken with my wife's cell phone camera.

I believe what you have here is ground cherries. After the blossoms become fruit they will be covered by a little lantern looking cover wuth a friut inside about the size of a sour cherry. Lots of folks make pies and jellies with them.
