Do any members know of or have experience with classroom instruction in Photography?
I belong to a 1,500 member group (online and attendee) and would like to consider offering a curriculum of offerings - Lightroom, Photoshop, Portrait, Landscape, Macro etc.

I can find Online course listings ... but wanted to check if UHH Members had info for in class course costs.

Check courses available locally from: high school, community college, colleges and photo studios. See also online courses and manufacturer-sponsored courses (e.g., the Nikon Course). All together those should give you an idea of the current range of pricing. You might consider doing a joint offering from you AND another popular local photographer.

I taught for 15 years at a non-profit photography school. If you are interested in offering various
curricula and what to charge I can tell you that I was paid about $50 per hour. Classes were
generally 12-16 hours over several weeks.

If you're part of the St. Pete Photography Group, just ask Frank Lamica, the founder of the group. I'm sure he can give you guidance.

Why would UHHers experience be different than the listings?

I charged Indiana University $5,000 for a one day a week class for nine weeks. All we covered was taking pictures, composition, lighting, all outdoor photography. Students were required to attend three Saturdays of field work.

Then I began teaching one-day seminars that last six hours and charged each student $150, class had to have 20 or students or more.n
I have former students who walk away with ribbons at competitions and several students that now work for mIn figure 1 agazine. Joni came to class with the goal of working for Audubon Magazine. Last I heard from her she reached her goal.

If you don't think I'm that good i will be posting pictures as soon as I get 75% of my new book out of the way.

At our city/county parks and recreation department a 1 hr class costs under $30 . At our local community college a no credit 8hr class costs under $80. I teach both of those. For private lessions I charge $25 per hour with a 2 hr minimum. But I as not trying to make a liveing, just support my hobbies.

Thank you all for the responses. I think more and more online classes will be a strong competitor for dollars and time management. The web has so much out there - both value and not so much. But as we all know the best way to learn is get out out there and shoot.
